Description

The Global Sustainability Challenge is an international student competition for developing practical solutions in the field of sustainable development. The initiative brings together universities and experts led by Stanford University. The NU Impact Foundation invites students from Central Asia, including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan, to participate. The 2026-27 season features two areas: sustainable energy and climate change adaptation. Teams can work on energy generation and storage, energy efficiency, power grid sustainability, water resources, food systems, and protection against extreme heat. Participants go from defining a problem and developing a concept to creating a prototype, testing, and presenting a solution. The program includes mentorship, expert feedback, and regional finals followed by a global final. The competition is suitable for undergraduate, graduate, and PhD students of any major who want to turn their research or idea into an applied environmental project. The winning teams can receive an invitation to Stanford EcoGlobal, an eight-week environmental entrepreneurship development program with workshops and weekly coaching. The conditions for the 2027 cycle are being finalized.
